Church in the City: A Heritage of Devotion to Our Lady Consolata

By Lourine Oluoch

At 50 years, the Consolata Shrine in Westlands has not only become a spiritually nourishing fountain, but also a major landmark in the Capital City of Nairobi, Kenya.  If you live or work in Westlands you can time yourself by the church bell that peals every top of the hour from the Shrine.

Surrounded by many business premises and offices, the Consolata Shrine provides a serene place of worship where catholic faithful working around Westlands can attend daily Mass. In the morning at 7 o’clock, lunchtime at 1.15 pm and in the evenings at 5.15 pm, which many of them are not able to attend from their parishes because of early and late commute.

The shrine also has ‘Perpetual Adoration,’ which runs round the clock but currently, is not possible due to the Covid-19 pandemic prevention guidelines that have restricted movement to a 10 pm to 4 am curfew.

“Any time you come, Jesus is there and you can do your adoration.  This is a very, very important spiritual aspect in our shrine.
